~WIKISPACE~
What is science? Well, according to http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/science-definition.html, the word science comes from the Latin "scientia," meaning knowledge. How do you define science?Well, "according to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science is "knowledge attained through study or practice," or "knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world.""
It is divided into four broader categories which include: Biology; chemistry; physics; and earth sciences. Under those broader categories are more precise, smaller branches. Here are the categories:

Biology:

Chemistry:

Physics:

So for all you smartie pants out there, hence Kathleens rockin' Halloween costume, you may want to reconsider your vast knowledge of science. Lets face it, no matter how hard our guided readings, and take home unit tests are, there's may more to learn than what is going on in Mrs. HW's evil plots. (Joking of course) :)

BLONDES TO THE MOON~ At a press conference the Brunettes announce they are going to make a trip to the Moon. The Redheads speak up "That's been done before, we're going to go to Mars". The Blondes speak up "That's nothing, we're going to be the first people to go to the Sun". One of the reporters says "Don't you idiots know that you'll burn up?" The Blondes say "NO WE WON'T; WE'RE GOING TO GO AT NIGHT!"

SO!. Who doesn't like playing with good chemicals and making them erupt?? We'll I do. Of course biology is better than chemistry right? Well anyways, here's an experiment some guys did, using alkali metals. Mixing them with water, and well, check it out!:

Hey guys. Who of you have tried that annoying crane game at the mall?? You know, the one that eats the hole in your pocket. The one my dads addicted to playing. It's a gamble, sure, but is it really worth it? SURE! *If you know HOW to play it anyways... This video shows you how to beat the odds. And win that lump of fluff that has been set in your mind.

The name is Jones.. OSMOSIS Jones..
I know some of you don't actually like the show.. so instead I just found a clip that explained the process. You know, to help with those tests, the ones that are hard.. too hard..? ;)

So if you weren't quite listening during our awesome presentation(Jia, Kristina & I), you might have been left wondering how can I tell if i have a symptom of skin cancer. Well there are some signs that you may want to look out for. These following videos will explain how to tell if you have skin cancer, the main three types, or if you think you may. Better yet. Why not just protect yourself? Use those hats stashed away in your closests. Your sunglasses! And last but definitely not least. Sunscreen. SPF 45 PLUS PLEASE!

Is preventing homosexuality through drugs ethical?

A team lead by the University of Illinois at Chicago have discovered the reasoning of homosexuality in fruit flies, and have found a way to turn it on and off within hours.
An associate professor of biological sciences at UIC, and his co-workers discovered a gene in fruit flies called "genderblind," or GB. A mutation in GB turns flies bisexual.
But the GB gene became even more interesting when researcher Yael Grosjean noticed that all the GB mutant males were courting other males. As in to get the other males "attention."
"It was very dramatic," said Featherstone. "The GB mutant males treated other males exactly the same way normal male flies would treat a female. They even attempted copulation." I wouldn't doubt some of you would look up copulation in the dictionary...
Featherstone and his colleagues reasoned that adult fly brains have "dual-track sensory circuits, one that triggers heterosexual behavior, the other homosexual." When GB overcome glutamatergic synapses, the homosexual circuit is blocked. If the GB somehow ends up mutating, the heterosexual path is blocked, resulting in the homosexuality of the fruit fly.
Later work showed precisely how this happens. Without GB to intake synapse strength, the flies could no longer interpret the smells which attracted them to the females in the first place the same way.
"Pheromones are powerful sexual stimuli," Featherstone said. "As it turns out, the GB mutant flies were perceiving pheromones differently. Specifically, the GB mutant males were no longer recognizing male pheromones as a repulsive stimulus."
He also says someday it might be possible to manipulate their senses from pheromones and GB to turn them into useful pollinators rather than costly pests. A revolution to pest control.

Lets just hope it doesn't go so far as to effect humans attractions...

Killer asteroid in 2036?

This is just a video explaining what some scientists think could happen 26 years from now. The possibility of an asteroid hitting the Earth and killing us all? And in case that wasn't enough to satisfy your nervous system, how do you like the extra chance of an asteroid hitting the Earth in 2029?
Simply invigorating isn't it?

In case you didn't know how hypnotism really worked...

Ok. So i finally had a chance to watch the video! So about hypnosis, he's the popular guy in the bar. The one who wants to make you happy, and talk about what you want to talk about, whatever makes you happy. Well metaphorically speaking anyways. I guess you could say it kind of works the same way as a drug, or caffeine does. It acts as something you like, and therefore, the person who is talking, or hypnotising you, is allowed past the security of your brain, into your conciousness. And yes, they can even persuade you to do things you usually wouldn't. It is an interesting subject, and is something I may reaseach, and add more to later.
